Andalucia has always been a crossroads of cultures and major Mediterranean civilizations. It is a very rich and beautiful region and every conqueror who had come to forcefully establish his civilization was in the end conquered himself by the Andalucian way of life. At the same time, the invaders were always leaving behind a bit of their way of seeing the world, which was always received easily. Phoenicians, Carthaginian, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Jews and Christians had passed through and left something behind, thus enriching our Andalucian spirit and our way of life.
An Andalucian legend from the 10th century tells that God himself appeared to a young man and offered him to grant him all his wishes for his land. The man asked for a blue sky full of birds, and it was granted. He asked for a blue sea full of fish and it was granted. He asked for fertile soil and big rivers, and it was granted as well. He asked for friendly and happy people, and it was granted. Finally, he asked for good rulers, and God denied. The man was wondering why and God answered that if he had granted this wish, the land would have become the Paradise. This is our wonderful Andalucia, where we live, but nothing is perfect!
The Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the great mountains (Sierra Nevada 3871m boasts the highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula), the rivers Guadalquivir and Guadiana, Granada with its Alhambra, Seville, Cordoba, Jerez, Ronda, Cadiz, Malaga, Tarifa, vast olive groves and sunflower fields, and extensive, perfectly preserved Mediterranean woodland are combined with a mild and pleasant climate, diverse wildlife and kind, friendly people. This is Andalucia, my land. In the centre of it you will find the Hotel Cortijo las Piletas, a perfect setting to experience the region in a quiet, intimate and relaxed way and to spend your holidays getting to know this different, fascinating and very special place.
